Too many things, and not enough. At this moment I am very preoccupied with getting my book "The Sea is Wide: A Memoir of Caregiving" published.

There are a lot of good things about being a writer, and also many hard things, but perhaps the best thing about being a writer is being able to share my perspective, my thoughts, what is going on inside my head. I'm an introvert, so this is how I share with most people.

It is cliché, but also very true, that the best thing for an aspiring writers to do is write. Then write some more. And don't stop writing.
The second good piece of advice is to accept hard critiques and grow from them. You weren't born a perfect writer, and you never will be. But you can grow if you listen and learn.

I find there are different kinds of writer's block. Sometimes writer's block develops when working on a difficult part of a book. Then I try to simply persevere. Other times writer's block can come when I truly don't know where to take the writing next. In that case taking a break for a (short) time can give a fresh perspective. Lastly, sometimes discouragement can bring on writer's block. Reading something that inspires my own writing, or doing something other than writing that is encouraging is the best way to fight that form of writer's block.
