Not succumbing to it. Telling yourself that you can write something no matter what. Even if you think it is crappy, if you put down five pages, usually some part of it can be salvaged. Keep doing that until you find "it" and all of a sudden your in a creative groove and putting down really good stuff.

Find a style that feels natural to you and read other writers who write in a similar style. That said, don't be afraid to stretch your boundaries. But most of all, write something every day, even they are just sketches, observations, or musings. Keep working.

I have three books in various stages of development. First, is the sequel to Courage Matters, which I hope to finish in 2015. Longer term are two non-fiction works that I have completed the outlines for and have written some chapters. One is a book about college football, the other is a book on the college admission process.

I was toying with the idea of how someone who lived a very mundane life--in this case that of a college professor--who was suddenly thrust into a world of crime and violence. How would he react? How would it affect his core personality. With that I wanted a compelling plot that included relatively high stakes and a love interest. Courage Matters sort of just came together from these basic elements.
