Some (lucky) authors literally buy their way to the top, pouring big money into ad campaigns here on Goodreads, on Amazon and elsewhere. Our motivation ("our" being my son, fellow moderator and co-writer James) for setting up the group was to highlight the news behind the news and explore subjects that mainstream media ignores or does not cover well.
That and to promote books that could be categorized as underground knowledge books, including those (8) books in our own Underground Knowledge Series.

Hi Stephen - I assume you refer to our current Underground Knowledge group poll at https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/1... in which we ask Do you believe society would be better off if recreational drugs were decriminalized? As you can see it addresses many allied issues - not the least being overcrowded prisons and the corruption that accompanies this. Just one of innumerable topical issues we highlight in the group.

Hey Warren - There are so many answers to this question I'm not sure where to start. For Indie authors, marketing (like writing) is a personal journey each of us needs to take, with no two paths being the same. Short of writing a generic bestseller, there's no easy way - despite what the 'experts' may tell you. There are many good books and informative online author forums on the topic... I suggest those are a good starting point. This site (Goodreads) has some excellent marketing tips for authors. Best of luck and I wish you and your book well! -Lance
