That's probably like asking why I breathe. Like most authors, I write because I have to; for me, it's a way to frame my understanding of the world and to share that view with others.

It is true that sometimes a writer is tired after completing a long work. That probably means she or he should take some time to relax and become refreshed before beginning a new project.
Aside from that, a writer who finds her/himself feeling uninspired, may want to spend some time experimenting with new writing forms, styles or genres. Often the result of that casual experiment surprises the writer and leads him to discover new ways to proceed.

Read everything you can -- from the classics to best sellers to graphic novels. By doing so, you will learn about the many techniques and styles authors employ to create their stories. Meanwhile you should be writing every day -- perhaps as a journal, a short story, or even an imaginary letter to a friend. By doing both, reading and writing daily, your literary skills will gradually improve. Start small, be patient and once you have more confidence you will be ready to tackle longer forms of writing.

There are so many! But the most important is that you live widely as a writer, not only in your imagination but in the research you must do in order to write authoritatively. This applies to both writers of fiction and nonfiction, for whatever you write requires constant learning about people, institutions, inventions, nature, history and other topics you must understand to write abut them.
You are like the proverbial cat who lives nine lives, except that as a writer you live many more lives through your creativity.
