Pearl Howie Learn how to silence the inner critic aka the voice of knowledge, the ego, because this is the voice that will shut you down and shut you up.

I use different types of music to silence it, as well as meditation and many other techniques. Once you can do this, you free yourself as a writer.

Warning: it's even harder to silence the inner critic when you are editing, because you are actually looking for problems!

The good news is that being able to do this is not just a writing skill but an essential life skill.
Pearl Howie I guess there are two kinds of writer's block - when I feel like I want to write but am having difficulty getting words on the page, and when I am not feeling strongly about writing.

If I'm not feeling strongly I consider this "writer's rest" and work on other things.

If I feel like there is something to write I often go for a walk on a beach or in the woods - sometimes it even takes a couple of days for the words to crystallise, but then when the moment is right, the words show up (and I often write on my phone or on a piece of paper because it's often just a few lines that were too difficult to write at a desk).
