Seb Doubinsky Right now, I have two projects in French -- a short story and a novel dur for 2025 (It's been almost 15 years since I've written long fiction in French -- weøll see how it goes...). Then I am planning on writing a low-fi Fantasy novella, which willbe very unconventional -- at least, I hope so... Thanks for asking!
Seb Doubinsky He looked at the envelope. It was from the bank.
Seb Doubinsky I would travel to Tangiers in 1955 and smoke hashish with Burroughs and Bowles.
Seb Doubinsky Two, so far:
-Borne, by Jeff Vandermeer
Island, by Aldous Huxley
Seb Doubinsky There is no mystery in my life - only unexplored possibilities or unexplainable situations. Writing itself is one of them.
Seb Doubinsky Definitely Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, because of all the possible interpretations, of course.
Seb Doubinsky Defintely Artaud - especially Heliogabale. I always found Rilke too constructed to my taste, too perfect. (Same feeling I have with Mallarmé). The feelings implied, especially, are, for me, too aesthetic But it's a question of taste, not of value. .
Seb Doubinsky I don't. I let it happen - if it happens - and wait until it dies out of its own boredom. Usually, I'm just lazy and don't want to bother. It's also my best excuse.
Seb Doubinsky Nothing. It only makes life more complicated.
Seb Doubinsky Actually, I have none, as each writer is different. What I mean by that, is that outside of the general technical recommendations, each aspiring writer deserves a personalized discussion, so that he or she can frame his or her intention(s) more clearly. I find general advice for young poets or novelists a ton of crap, and generally a way for established writers or Creative Writing teachers to assert their (illusionary) power.
Seb Doubinsky I am currently working on a new novel, SUAN MING, which is a strange Sci-Fi novel formally based on the i-Ching,(but not like Dick's masterpiece, THE MASTER OF THE HIGH CASTLE), dealing with man's bad tendency to play with nature in the name of science. I am also working on a new poetry collection, RUINS, which attempts to describe my wild punk youth in the early 80s.
Seb Doubinsky I get inspired by what I read about in the news, books I read, art I see and music I listen to. Then I mix everything until it has a strange consistence, color and smell, and I get to work, trying to give it some sort of shape that will make sense - or almost.
Seb Doubinsky The inspiration for WHITE CITY comes from the current political situation in the Western world and the way we apprehend ourselves and see the world through our own designed prism - leading to dangerous new ideological forms that find their roots in our darkest history.
