I think it's more about sitting in your chair and facing either your computer or a blank sheet of paper. You can't wait for inspiration to write and sometimes the best things come out when you feel the least inspired.

Join writing groups like Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America or the equivalent that works for your genre. Also attend conferences where there are other writers. If I hadn't done these things I'm not sure I'd be published today.
