Connie Brockway I had the idea for a young girl crooning "He's dead! He's dead! Joyous day, he'd dead!" (the opening scene of THE SONGBIRD'S SEDUCTION) for so long I can't remember where it came from. Probably feeling homicidal about something
Connie Brockway I read a lot, primarily outside the romance genre. Music also can inspire a series of scenes, or exchanges --especially heart-breaking songs. And then movies. There might be a character, some throw away secondary character, that just ignites my curiosity and before I know it, he/she is developing into a character. And there's friends, and secondhand stories and newspaper clippings and magazine articles and...you get the picture. Everything.
Connie Brockway Another Edwardian! The heroine is a tough minded lady with an agenda, the hero is the man she jilted. Fun!
Connie Brockway FINISH A BOOK. That book. The one in your bottom drawer next to the other fifteen in the bottom drawer.Take it out and finish it. It doesn't matter if it's good, bad , indifferent, what you envisioned or some sort of horrible dreck. If it's done, there's not only this huge sense of accomplishment in having written "THE END" but you can edit it! You can't edit nothing.
Connie Brockway Nine months out the years the spectacularly easy hours. Like three or four hours a day! Yahoo! Of course, the other three months that's the worst thing about the job-- the grueling, eighteen hour a day work week.
Connie Brockway just slog through it. Sometimes it only results in a few pages, sometimes those pages are deleted the next day. Doesn't matter . Any progress --even a few words-- is progress.
