Moonlight Sacrifice was originally a short story titled Luna. I was looking for an idea for my NANOWRIMO project in 2011 and decided I could take the short story and make a novel out of it. When I reached the 50,000 word mark, it became apparent to me that I’d only told half the story so I used it as my 2012 project and finished the story and the novel with around 110,000 words. Editing was very difficult since I left the first half of the book unedited until I’d finished the entire project.
I employed a different technique with this story than I’d ever attempted before. I began the novel in present time and then incorporated back story throughout the book until the end where the two timelines converged in the dramatic conclusion. I like the result.
