Ruth Buchanan LOL, Eric! I can already tell, this is an urban legend in the making. I can promise you, my mother does read my books, and even likes them! Would you believe that the reason my book is marked *unread* on her Kindle is that she went all in on hard copies??

Companions in Suffering by Wendy Alsup
Ruth Buchanan I would 100% travel to Middle Earth, but only if I could be assured the Ring of Power had already been destroyed. I would hang out with the Hobbits and hopefully marry a powerful Elf Lord.
Ruth Buchanan Two-sentence horror story: No coffee.
Ruth Buchanan I love other people's reactions to what I've written. Good or bad, agree or disagree, love or hate--what I love best is engaging with other thinkers and wrestling through ideas together.
Ruth Buchanan Because I'm currently promoting five books (one recent release and four more coming out in the next five months), I'm up to my eyeballs in copyedits and promotional work. My next project, however, is a sacred script centering on Christ's parable of the Marriage Feast (Matthew 22:1-13).
Ruth Buchanan Most of my story ideas come from being out and about, learning history and trying new things. Most stories start with seeing, hearing, or experiencing something new, and than thinking, "Hmm... what if?" The stories develop from there.
Ruth Buchanan The best thing I ever did for my writing was to create a set writing schedule and treat it like a job. Unless I was ill or had a genuine emergency, I didn't miss. After three years of following a committed schedule, I saw major breakthroughs.
Ruth Buchanan In 2013, I broke my ankle just before I had to move. If that weren’t disastrous enough, my fire alarm system started fritzing out, requiring me to routinely climb onto a chair with my cast and crutches to fiddle with the ceiling unit. Around this same time, a maintenance worker who had been dispatched to deal with a separate crisis discovered black mold in my closet. He returned the next day while I was at work and chopped away a massive section of drywall, oblivious to the half-packed boxes littering my bedroom. I came home to plastic sheeting for a wall and a fine mist of drywall dust coating everything. Then my phone died. It seemed impossible to imagine a more complete disaster.

Over the next few days, as I crutched through the shambles of my apartment, I began plotting this book.
