Mark Ellis Hi Karen. From an early age the thing that has given me the greatest pleasure is reading books. This naturally led me to wanting to write my own books. For many years I was too busy in my legal and business career to write but I have finally got to a position when I have the time to do so and I am thoroughly enjoying it!

I won Book #3 in the Goodreads Giveaway. Does it stand on its own or do I need to read the first two in the series?

Mark Ellis Hi Cynthia. I wrote Merlin At War as a stand alone. There are some references back to the previous stories but they are not important to the following of the plot or understanding of the characters. Similarly with the second of the series Stalin's Gold. I hope you enjoy it!

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Mark Ellis The new books by Don Winslow, Joseph Finder and John Le Carré. Also The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore and the classic Love And Fate by Vasily Grossman

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Mark Ellis Paul Temple and Steve. Love the period atmosphere. Also Holmes and Watson of course. And my own Merlin and Sonia.

Can you read Stalin's Gold as a standalone novel, or should I read Princes Gate first?

Mark Ellis Hi Andrew. I wrote it so it could be read as a standalone novel and several reviewers have commented that they didn't feel at a loss from not having read the first book. Obviously I am writing a series which does involve the development of various characters as the series progresses. A number of readers have said they read the 2 books in the wrong order without loss of enjoyment.
