The short story I'm working on at the moment came from an evening I spent guarding a prisoner when I was in the military. I was unarmed and locked in an old rickety building that made all kinds of strange noises, while the prisoner slept in the next room. I took that eerie event and built on it, sprinkled in some twisted stuff, cranked up the intensity, and came up with the idea for Confinement, a short horror novella that I should be publishing soon.

I mix up the playlists in my car. When I want to be inspired, I'll usually listen to either some haunting music like Evanescence, Explosions in the Sky, 30 Seconds to Mars, or Muse or other types of rock. When I'm actually writing, I'll put on movie scores and sometimes a little bit of new age. I can't listen to music with lyrics when I'm writing, or I'll find myself singing along instead of punching on the keys.

I'm currently working on Mirror Images Book 3: Jewels of Eden and a couple of other dark fantasy novels. Plus, I'm starting to put together some horror and dark fantasy novellas.

Don't listen to the people who think you're crazy or wasting your time or no good at what you're doing. If you write for you and tell the stories you wan to tell, you'll eventually reach somebody. Just keep writing.

The best thing about being a writer is the opportunity to create your own world and characters. It also gives you the chance to lose yourself in your imagination. The real world can be tough sometimes. It can be depressing or just plain stressful. So being able to take a vacation into a written work is a great escape.

Great question. I deal with writer's block by switching up books whenever I get a little bit bored with one story. That way, I'm always working on something fresh. I tend to juggle several books at one time.
