Well, that's a hard one because I suppose it depends on what you think a mystery is. I have been trying to decide if I have any mysteries in my life at all. I had some very interesting experiences in my life as a journalist for the BBC but none of those would qualify as mysteries. What sort of thing did you have in mind?

Golly! I have never thought of fictional characters in this way - favourite or not. In Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer, which if you've seen my blog review, I didn't much care for, I did think that the husband and wife in that were well realised. But I bet that's a useless answer for you.

My most recent published book is 'The Small Book.' That was prompted by a campaign running in the UK some years ago which was trying to get rehabilitation for WWI soldiers who had been executed for desertion. I have just finished a new book, but as that is not out I can't really say anything about it...yet.

It's usually some event from the real world that sets me off, now or in the past.

I don't know. I was working on something and only today I had to drop the project because I discovered someone else was writing a novel on the exact same character (a real one) and as he was further down the line with it than me I withdrew.

Badly. I complain and wander about asking myself why I imagine I can write at all.

When things are going well, it is astonishingly exciting. Not that often I have to say.
