David Hopper Who was that woman who broke my father's heart just before he headed off with the Marines for action in the South Pacific?
David Hopper How do I NOT get inspired to write? Practically every other day, I wake up with characters in my head. (Speaking in a completely non-psychiatric way.) Writing lets me get to know these people and explore what and who they could turn out to be. So far, so good!
David Hopper I don't find writer's block to be a problem. Rather, clearing the mind, removing distraction (there's a smidge of ADD in all of us), and getting back into the story seem to be key for me. David Hopper Right now, I'm doing background research for a novel set in the period of approx. 1855 to 1870. Three wildly diverse central characters have captured my imagination. Each represents a completely different culture. Needless to say, I've learned more about the years during and around the American Civil War than I ever expected.
David Hopper Yes, they always say to write about what you know... Much of the detail and setting of IN SPIRIT & TRUTH is autobiographical. The idea for the central story line has been percolating for many years, with every visit back "down home" to the southern half of the family.
