David C. Russell This summer reading is concluding with the autobiographical sketch of former US President, Gerald Ford. Book title: Write It When I'm Gone, author, Tom DeFrank. It'[s entertaining, informative, and in some ways a pleasant trip down the memory lane of persons in the news in a bygone era.

Earlier in summer 2019, I read The Best of American Short Stories 2014, and The Best American Mystries, 2010.

My preference is for stories or novellas that are respectively under 30,000 words.

Tell me your summer read(s) as a means to have common ground together. Will you continue reading?

Happy page turning,
David C. Russell
David C. Russell Hello,

Inspiration to write comes from personal desire to do so. Beyond that it can be from a personal dream while sleeping, song lyric, snippet of conversation, or good old writing prompts. I also use the Word Of The Day from either Collins, Merriam Webster, or Cambridge dictionary for story ideas. If I feel blocked or stymied, I wait for the condition to pass and don't sweat it most times.
David C. Russell Do a lot of reading in the areas that you want to write in. Note how authors start their articles or books. Take some online learning courses where you will be instructed what to write and given a time frame to submit that writing. You need to give and receive feedback from the start. Read a respectable periodical such as "Writer's Digest" to get a feel for the craft. Learn and then learn some more. Then start writing.
David C. Russell Writer's block is when it is not possible for me to think about a topic on which to write, or how to present a given topic in a meaningful manner. I either take a break for ... and then go back to it, or I simplify and write what I know, or what I can soon know from a level of research that is comfortable for me to formulate and then re-express in words of my own.
David C. Russell I think one of the best things about being a writer is the sense of online community one can find with other writers. If one looks in the right places, it can benefit your craft as others provide feedback that you can use or discard at will. You may not like what you are told, but in time, what you are told will prove to be necessary for improvement. Decide what type of writer you want to be, and look for others or groups that also specialize in offering feedback to your type of writing. In time pay it back too.
David C. Russell I am currently working on submitting a short story to an online journal for possible publication. Furthermore, I will be finding readers for "Waiting For Messiah."
David C. Russell The anthology, "Waiting For Messiah" was borne from browsing available publications for the season of Advent observed by the Christian church. Few seemed to focus on the Jewish aspect of the season or the Messiah or the Messiah's family. I wanted to offer something to change that paradigm!
