Was that a reference to "Hamilton" in Act V, Scene I, of "The Force Doth Awaken"?! When saying to "talk less, smile more" and not throw away his shot?! The book was great--I liked it better than the movie!

Any plans to tackle Jane Austen novels? I'd love to see what you could do with Pride and Prejudice!

Ian Doescher No plans at this point, with the exception of Taming of the Clueless (which is an adaptation of Emma, and in which I adapted some portions of Emma).

I've had an absolute blast reading through your work and am especially excited to dig in to the Avengers!! Are there any plans to turn that one into an audiobook? Thanks for making many a joyous commute!

Love the Star Wars series, have you thought about doing any of the movies from Star Trek or other popular sci-fi franchises? Also, have you considered doing any of the other movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to go with the Avengers book?

Ian Doescher I would love to do some Star Trek—II, III and IV from the original movies would make a fun trilogy. I had an idea, years and years ago, to sort of flip the script and rewrite The Tempest with Star Trek characters. I never got that off the ground, but it always sounded fun to me.

It will surprise me if I end up doing more MCU, but as I always say, you never know... :-)

Ian Doescher After I wrote William Shakespeare's Star Wars—in which there's a scene that's not in the movie featuring two stormtroopers talking about the rebels escaping in the Millennium Falcon—I decided I wanted to write a scene in every book between two stormtroopers. These scenes aren't in the movies, and they're sort of poking fun at the movies themselves. The conversation about bottomless pits seemed appropriate for Empire, since Luke ends up at the bottom of one!

Do you typically read only new-to-you books? Or do you have any favorites that you have reread once, or periodically? If you do, what are some of your favorite revisits? Some of mine are many of your books :), Fahrenheit 451, The Giver Series, Jane Eyre, and the A.C. Crispin's Han Solo trilogy (may she RIP).

Ian Doescher I most often read only new books, but I do have favorites I return to. Station Eleven and Moby Dick are big ones.

Have you read any of the "Philosophy and Pop Culture" series books? I saw that one of your degrees is in ethics, so this may interest you if you aren't already familiar. I have so far read two (LOST & Batman), and find them to be an interesting bridge for theories of thought and ethics to be explained in terms of a movie/show/characters I am familiar with. If you haven't, you may enjoy some of them.

Do you plan on writing Shakespeare-type plays of the other Back to the Future-films?

Ian Doescher I don't know for sure, but it's probably not likely. At this point, my publisher and I haven't talked about doing the sequels.

I have had so much fun reading your take on the Star Wars franchise! Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Along with the content of the books, I like so may have absolutely loved the cover art as well. Is there any way to get a HiRes file of the art on these books? I have scanned them all, but it just doesn't do the art justice.

So I planted about 100 red oak trees in a nearby cemetery from the acorns I harvested from said cemetery and I never stopped to think about the effect of dead people on agronomy and agroforestry. What's the over-under on me accidentally raising up a crop of really pissed off Tree Ents?

I have been reading and loving your books since the first Star Wars novel and am happy you are branching out to include other items. My question is about MacTrump. Have you received any negative feedback from him or his supporters? It is not a negative book but if the camp gets mad at SNL, I can’t imagine MacTrump is sitting well with them either.

Hi Ian, I'm a huge fan of your William Shakespeare Star Wars series and I have a question: will you ever adapt Rogue One for it? I feel like Rogue One is very Shakespearean in its themes and ending!

Ian Doescher I would love to do it. At this point, Lucasfilm is just having me do the main episodes, but who knows—maybe one day!

Have you thought of writing any of Jane Austen's works in Shakespearean form? Pride and Prejudice is my favourite, but Emma has always read to me as closest to a Shakespeare comedy play.

Ian Doescher The thought has definitely crossed my mind. It's fun to adapt public domain works, and I do love Jane Austen!

Ian Doescher Funny you should ask... I actually just wrote an adaptation of The Godfather for my friend Josh's birthday. But it's probably not headed for wider publication.

How much work did it take to twist Huey Lewis into a Shakespearean sonnet? (Also - are there performance rights available for Back to the Future or Mean Girls? I didn't see it at your website)

Ian Doescher It wasn't too bad turning the Power of Love into a sonnet -- just a little reframing of the structure of the song. No word yet about performance rights for Back to the Future and Mean Girls. As with my Star Wars books, the copyright for the two new ones are under the movie studios' names, so they would make the call about whether public performances can happen, but I haven't asked them about it yet. Soon!
