It's hard to explain because, quite honestly, my books tend to just happen, though they're core is always a reflection of current affairs. Part of the joy of writing is the same as the joy of reading, in that even the author doesn't truly know what is coming next until after it has been written.

If I ever do feel disinclined to write, I find that watching a film or an artist being interviewed about their work or reading about authors, painters or musicians gets me inspired to get working again. Writng is a very lonely pastime and so seeing that there are others living the same life as you can be reassuring in times of self-doubt.

I've never suffered from writer's block in the sense that I've ever run out of ideas, though I do experience those moments when for some reason the ideas simply won't travel from my head, down my arm, into my pen and onto the paper. Based on the things that increase my own inspiration, the advice I'd give to authors suffering from writers block would be to put the pen and paper to one side for a few days a week or however long it takes, have a change of environment, watch a few movies, visit an art gallery, get your creative appetite moving. remember, you can't choose the muse, the muse chooses you.
