Thanks very much for your question. I'm delighted you enjoyed the books. In both cases, I was anxious not to portray the main female characters as saints and all the male characters as bad. I wanted them to feal 'real'. Perhaps, I went too far. In The American Girl, Rose was treated appallingly, not just by the home but also by her family. I think herown behaviour has to be seen in that context.
