I know it's been said by some of the greats, but it certainly holds true--write a lot and read a lot--but it is also helpful to feel a lot too, to acknowledge your emotions as they happen, good or bad, so you will be able to articulate them fluidly when you sit down at the keyboard.

The best thing about being a writer is being able to connect with my readers. Writing is a solitary business. It’s just you and your characters and a blank page you need to fill. Knowing that your work is touching someone, making them think in new ways, and bringing something different to their world, is a feeling I cannot, even as a writer, begin to articulate.

If I ever have writer's block, I know there's something going in in my life that I need to fix, so I try to take a good hard look at what is going on around me, figure out which issues I'm dealing with, then try to write that issue right out of my system.
