Eva Stachniak Hi Mary...I have seen your question and am still waiting for an answer from my publisher. I will let you know as soon as I hear from them.
Eva Stachniak The Mirror and the Light, by Hilary Mantel, much awaited and read with great pleasure. Slowly...with full attention.
Eva Stachniak To Hilary Mantel's Tudor England. I would love to watch Thomas Cromwell in action. Mantel has done such a wonderful job in getting me into his mind...and now I want the whole of his world.
Eva Stachniak Not too many mysteries in my life, but I could write a novel about my mother's experience during WWII. She was 11 when the war broke out, 16 when it ended and she never wanted to speak about what she saw and experienced. "Perhaps some other time," she would say..."One day." And then she lost her memory to Alzheimer's and I will never know what she lived through.
Eva Stachniak Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy.
There is a spark between them, a reckoning that promises growth for him and her. This relationship, I feel when I close teh novel, will renew itself, will not grow stale.
Eva Stachniak Hi Alexa,
I am open to all inspirations... Right now I am finishing a novel inspired by Bronislava Nijinska, Vaslav Nijinsky's sister--both fabulous dancers and choreographers who grew up in St. Petersburg. Later Romanovs figure quite a bit in this novel, for their fate is being decided right then. But this time it is the Imperial dancers who captivated me....
Eva Stachniak Hi Sara,
Are you concerned with choosing which historical events to write about? Once you understand your characters, you will know what is likely to impact or interest them. It really all depends on the overall goal of your novel. The Anatomy of Story: 22 Steps to Becoming a Master Storyteller by John Truby is a wonderful resource.
Good luck..
Eva
Eva Stachniak The inspiration for my two novels on Catherine the Great came from the research I did as I was writing "Garden of Venus" where Catherine appears in one of the scenes. I read her memoirs then, and her voice captivated me... I knew I would have to write about her.
Eva Stachniak Write the kind of books you love to read.
Eva Stachniak A novel inspired by Bronislava Nijinska, the sister of Vaslav Nijinsky who has been called the best male dancer of all times. Bronislava, or Bronia as she was called, was a superb dancer herself. She also, like her brother, became a distinguished choreographer. "Les Noces" with Igor Stravinsky's music is her masterpiece.
Eva Stachniak Apart from writing itself which I love, the best thing is to be able to connect with many fascinating people. Writing is a fairy lonely activity, but the research I do connects me with others far more knowledgeable than I am in so many areas. And a finished book means contacts with readers and other writers.
Eva Stachniak Writing a novel is such a complex task that I have no time to think of writer's block. On a good writing day, I write. On a bad writing day I do research or polish scenes I have written. Or take care of publicity tasks. So far this has worked!
