I'm working on getting this book seen by people. After 4 years of writing, I am happy to let it go, and eager to get responses from readers.
On another note, my show, "HAM: A Musical Memoir" which was based on my book "HAM: Slices of a Life" was filmed for television and has a wonderful distributor and we are looking at airing later this year on television.
Also, I have just sold a pilot of a 1/2 hour comedy for television to a prominent producer. In the time of Covid, everything has changed, so we're going as we go.
My priority, above all, is this book. It's my hear and soul.

Hi Mandeline -
I wouldn't say the I put less into HAM. It was a collection of essays, most of which were humorous, but there were some very personal and poignant parts that were very transparent. Fiction is different. The things that happen to these characters are obviously much larger in scope because the stakes are so much higher. But I put my all into both.

My newest book is set in 1960s rural Oklahoma. I grew up in Oklahoma (though a bit younger than the protagonist), so I have that world deep in my memory to count upon. the actual subject of the book came from a very personal experience when I was young that turned my world around. I've promised myself I won't share the autobiographical part of this inspiration as it is so personal. But let's say the book is based on personal experience.

After the idea comes - it's a matter of sitting down and writing. When it comes in waves and your fingers have to keep up with your thoughts, it's the best feeling. Writing is part inspiration and a great deal of discipline.
