Laura McHugh I hadn't thought about it! I'd have to figure out a compelling storyline for them. So glad you liked Arrowood! :)
Laura McHugh Thank you so much, Alexandria! If you've read Arrowood by now, I hope you liked it! My next book, THE WOLF WANTS IN, comes out August 6th. Here's a sneak peek:

Sadie Keller is determined to find out how her brother died, even if no one else thinks it’s worth investigating. Untimely deaths are all too common in rural Blackwater, Kansas, where crime and overdoses are on the rise, and the small-town police force is consumed with the recent discovery of a child’s skull in the woods. Sadie is on her own, delving into the dark corners of a life her brother kept hidden and unearthing more questions than answers.

Eighteen-year-old Henley Pettit knows more than she’d like about the seedy side of Blackwater, and she’s desperate to escape before she’s irreparably entangled in her family’s crimes. She dreams of disappearing and leaving her old life behind, but shedding the past is never easy, and getting out of town will be far more dangerous than she ever imagined.

As more bones are found in the woods, time is running out for Sadie to uncover the truth and Henley to make her escape. Both women are torn between family loyalties and the weight of the secrets they carry, knowing full well that some secrets are hard to live with; others will get you killed.
Laura McHugh Hi Pam, I often use names that were on my list of potential baby names (names my husband vetoed!). The name Delilah shows up a couple of times in my family tree and I liked the shortened form (Lila). Thanks for your question!
Laura McHugh Hi, Edee! Thank you for coming to see me at Rainy Day Books! My next book, THE WOLF WANTS IN, will come out August 6th. It's set in a small farming town outside Kansas City that has been struggling with the opioid epidemic (full description below). I hope you will enjoy it, and maybe I'll get to see you again in Kansas City!

Laura McHugh Barry, he is an Irish setter/golden retriever mix, and his fur grows really long and shaggy. He always looks due for a haircut.
Laura McHugh Hi Autumn! Thank you so much for getting the book when I was there visiting! I had a great time meeting you all that day. You are both correct, I left it unanswered on purpose. :) I am not completely sure, myself, but I wanted it to be Carl, who is kindhearted like Lucy. Thank you for reading! I hope to visit LHS again when the next book comes out. :)

Laura McHugh Hi Carrie! Sorry I'm just now seeing this. I'm glad you enjoyed the book--thank you for reading it! I had read about trafficking and had seen stories on the news, though I didn't have plans to write about it. Later, as I was working on the novel, I saw an article about a case that hit close to home, and at that point I started digging deeper and learning more. There is a great organization here where I live that is working hard to fight trafficking and help victims in our area.
Laura McHugh Sure! Thank you for reading TWOB--I'm so glad you liked it! The pub date for the next book isn't set yet, though it should be in 2015. The working title is Arrowood.

When she was six years old, Arden witnessed the kidnapping of her two little sisters from the front yard of their grand old home on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The fractured Arrowood family moved away, and Arden never fully recovered from the loss of her sisters, who were never found. Twenty years later, she is back in the old family home, faced with evidence that she might have been wrong about what she saw on that terrible day long ago. If she can't trust her own memory, what else was she wrong about? What really happened to the Arrowood twins?

The book is similar in tone to TWOB, dark and suspenseful, and is set in the crumbling grandeur of a small Iowa town on the banks of the Mississippi River. I hope you will enjoy it!
Laura McHugh Thank you, Carol! I'm so glad you liked The Weight of Blood! My next book (working title: Arrowood) is set to be published in 2015, though I don't have the exact date yet.
