Tilly Tennant The inspiration for The Man Who Can't Be Moved came directly from song with the same title. It's a song I love and I remember listening to it one day and wondering what would happen if someone did camp out on a corner to wait for their ex. The addition of a reporter covering the story seemed a natural progression and the rest of the story followed quickly after that.
Tilly Tennant For many years I've made myself write every day if I can, so now it's become second nature and I feel strange if a day goes by when I don't do at least a few hundred words. Inspiration strikes me everywhere I go; usually in the supermarket queue or driving, somewhere really awkward where I can't get to a laptop before I forget my idea! I'm always working on the next novel as soon as I've finished one. I just can't help myself!
Tilly Tennant I'm currently working on a novel with a bit of a magical feel to it about two best friends and how an outside threat affects their relationship. It's set in a small village in Hampshire, which is a departure from the fictional town of Millrise where the last two have been set. I can't say much more than that at the moment, mostly because I'm only halfway through and not even sure where the story is going myself!
Tilly Tennant Write every day even if you don't feel like it and even if it's only a few hundred words. And grow an extremely thick skin, you're going to need it!
Tilly Tennant I get to make things up for a living. I write for every person who connects with my story; it's the most satisfying thing to hear in the world when someone tells you they have.
Tilly Tennant I honestly don't tend to get writer's block very often. If that rare thing happens, I had great advice from my creative writing lecturer once, who said to force myself to write something, anything, even if it was gibberish, just so the page in front of me wouldn't be blank and then the rest would come. He said there is nothing more likely to sustain writer's block than the terrifying sight of a blank page coupled with a blank brain!
