Although London as imagined by China Mieville, or perhaps Chicago as Imagined by Jim Butcher are very enticing, I'd have to say I'd prefer the world as imagined by Gabriel Carcia Marquez, especially in Love in the Time of Cholera because it remains a part of my heart to this day.

I go through a daily routine of hot yoga and then I box for a half hour until the sun comes up. Then it's off to the races where I bet all my money on Little Hot Mess and lose it all because little hot mess has HADHD (horse ADHD) and about three seconds into the trifecta she's on Facebook with her hooves scrolling on her iPhone and thumbs-upping mane shots. I spend my last ten dollars on a shot of Balvenie and huddle over a napkin with one of those little golf pencils they hand out in the betting area. I'm good for about 350 words before I pass out.

I mostly steal them. It's super hard. I have to . . . ok, look don't do this at home, ok? But I put on a ski mask and black fatigues and I hide in the bushes under Neil Gaiman's place and take notes. He'll be all like, GODDAMIT! WRITING IS BLOODY HARD! and then he'll throw something and it gets pretty emotional for a few . . . I just hang out and troll Instagram for a few minutes and then Gaiman gives himself a little pep talk and then he's all like "I must read aloud, it is the only way to get the dialogue right!" and I just record everything he says then go home and change the names.
