I would go to Hogwarts as a Professor and teach broomstick flying. I would love to get around the world in that manner.

Eve Dallas and Roake, the fictional NY city cop in JD Robb's In Death series. She's ethical, driven, knows her flaws and weaknesses. She's always about justice. They have the time and talent to influence kids (street corner vendor and kid that survived her family's murder as well as the Icove case). He's master of the world - has an amazing IQ and well he's an Irish god! In the end they are both kind people.

I get inspired by simply walking down the street. Yesterday, I was out in my neighborhood doing my usual 3 mile walk or run. I saw a shiny black Cadillac in a parking lot at a school (closed for the summer) and half a block down I saw two young men briefly interact with each other, before the one man headed for the car, got in , and the car was moving almost before the door closed. My mind was spinning out a story for what I had just seen across the street. Was this a drug deal? Why was the car so clean, the windows so tinted dark and idling at the school? For the next 5 minutes of my walk I spun out the mystery in my mind.
On the non-creative side, I have a schedule pinned to a cork board with how many words I am supposed to have written by a certain date. That keeps the pressure on to be productive at writing.

Know what kind of author you are - do you write best by plotting out your book into chapters, or do you write best by just sitting down and just writing. Whatever way makes you most productive, don't try and change yourself.
Read a lot of books in your genre as this represents what readers want. Do be successful in writing beyond completing a story, you have to understand what your readers like. You will still have your own author's voice that makes you unique, but know your genre.

My WIP is a murder mystery set in the high country of a Colorado Ski Resort town. It is interesting writing about the snow when it is 80 degrees outside. Fortunately, I have been skiing for 30 years so I have lots of good memories to tug on. Its available now for pre-order on Amazon and will be available to readers on September 17, 2014.

I have ideas for lots of books. I am a pantser writer meaning I start with an opening and write from there. This can be a difficult way to write as I often don't know where the story is going more than about four paragraphs ahead of where I am at the moment. Sometimes I can't write because I don't know where the story is going next, but give me 24 hours and I'll figure out a direction.

I write seven days a week for 1-2 hours at a time several times throughout my day. I like the flexibility of writing for a few hours than going out for a run, and then returning to write some more.

I was on vacation- in Belgium and the Netherlands and I remember walking through the diamond district in Antwerp thinking I feel intrigue on these streets, how could I make this a setting for murder? As an added complication I wanted chocolate in the equation. The Belgians are such artists for both chocolate and diamonds.
