Terry Kerr Just write. Doesn't matter if it's awful, just write. Set yourself a word count every day. (That's EVERY day.) Mine is 4,000 words. Don't quit before you've written 4,000 words. Not all of them will be terrible. Somehow, somewhere you'll find your way out. Nobody ever got out of a cave by sitting on their backsides.
Terry Kerr Sitting back after a first draft has the words THE END typed onto it, and thinking "I did that."
Terry Kerr Sit down. Write. Be selfish. This is writing we're talking about!!! Writing!!! What else matters? Even if what you write is crap, WRITE IT! You can't be a writer without actually writing.
Terry Kerr This questionnaire. Also my schedule is about to explode, so I've been getting ahead of myself. Next summer's book is with the editor, and 2017's book is in 3rd draft. I'm thinking of sleep somewhere around 2025.
Terry Kerr By keeping my eyes open and my mouth shut.
Terry Kerr Watching snooker! In a freezing conservatory. With the sound turned down. And a dog on my lap. While all that was happening I received a text from a friend telling me her mother had died. It was while I was dispensing all my wisdom (took one line) that I entered the phrase "You can't plan." For some reason that struck a chord. Don't ask me why, I just liked it. So I picked up a notebook and wrote..."You can't plan," then added (for no very good reason I can recall) "thought Hayley, sitting in her hospital bed." Three months later I had a first draft.
