What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Annette Miller Every time I buy a new movie and put it away, it disappears. Is someone stealing my movies? Could I possibly have gremlins in my house or maybe a ghost? I guess I'll never know.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Annette Miller This is a tough question as there are so many fictional worlds that are amazing. Of course, the obvious answer is Middle Earth because who wouldn't want to go there. Gondor is where I'd want to be. I love the White City. I think I'd like to go to Harry Dresden's Chicago. It's still Earth, but an Earth with magic and the possibilities are endless. I'd like to own a business that dispenses information to the good guys and stymies the bad guys. And of course, I'd like to have powers of my own.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Annette Miller I'll read something in an entirely different genre. I also cross stitch which is great for freeing my mind to work on the problem that hung me up.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Annette Miller Going to work in my sweatpants and bedroom slippers. :) Seriously, I love the fact that I'm my own boss and my success depends solely on me. It's pressure, but one that doesn't make you hate to get out of bed in the morning.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Annette Miller Don't give up and don't take rejection to heart. I got rejected a lot when I first started but don't let it get you down. Take it as a learning opportunity. Learn about the genre you want to be published in. Go through Publisher's Weekly at your local library. Learn the business and, most important, learn the craft. It's rewarding to know you created something and people want to read it.
