Turn up the pressure! Give yourself a deadline and reward or punish yourself in some way for success or failure. I use an egg timer and give myself a word limit. Maybe I have to write 1,000 words in 20 minutes. Start writing the first thing that comes to mind. Sometimes you have to get the garbage out of the way before the good stuff is found. The editing process is the real challenge.

Develop a strong outline before you begin writing. Dedicate a regular time and place to do your work, preferably in a public place. I am amazed by how much inspiration can come from observing the lives of others. Allow the words to come out naturally, even if it isn't a masterpiece yet. Perfectionism is the enemy of the creative spirit, leave that to editors.

I am currently working on the second book in the Grey Eyes series. This book will help expose the plight of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls and the fear that paralyzes our society against doing anything about the issue.

I began reading other Native American author's works and found that most of them centred on the loss of land, language and culture. Many where extremely depressing. I decided that what was really needed was a sign post, guiding our people back to the fundamental beliefs of our ancestors. We needed hope, and heroes to guide us on that journey.

When my son was born with Grey Eyes, it became important to me to try to find the legends of the Grey Eyes. When I was only able to find fragments and rumours I decided to write a compelling story that would help impart the life lessons and cultural teachings that I would like to leave my children with.
