With many things competing for my attention I've found having a routine vital. I spent many years lamenting the lack of time. In the end I created the time, demanded it, carved it out and now I protect it. I found that I couldn't expect others to respect my time for writing if I didn't respect it myself.

I have no idea! A friend paid me the nicest compliment the other day. She said, 'I wish I had your brain'. It's sometimes a little noisy in here but it's always entertaining.

The book I'm working on now is quite different from ROAD TO NOWHERE. It has a slight science fiction slant, it involves time travel, but I feel it's essentially about identity and how our relationships form our view of the world and indeed ourselves.

Usually I make another cup of coffee, put some cloths away, clean the kitchen or if it's really extreme meditate. Then if it's just not flowing I stop for that session and leave it until next time. I have three mornings a week set aside for writing. If it doesn't flow in that time I'm not hard on myself. There are days when all I construct is a sentence and other days when it's pages. Having the routine is really important to me and I go back to it regardless of what I achieved in the last session.
