Hello Carol
I'm a big fan of historical romance, and especially stories which incorporate mystery and suspense. I love a touch of Gothic. My passion began with Daphne du Maurier and Victoria Holt.

Hi Patricia... I've been immersed in Gothic fiction lately: Daphne du Maurier, Victoria Holt, Mary Stewart and Susan Howatch... also Michelle Paver, Susan Hill, and Elizabeth Kostova's 'The Historian'. xx - Em

Hello Alexandria
One of my favourite contemporary authors is Jonathan Kemp. His 'Twenty-Six' and 'London Triptych' are fabulous: so original. Josephine Hart's 'Damage' has also influenced me: it delves the psychology of sexual motivation, and its consequences.
I also adore the work of Remittance Girl, Malin James and Adrea Kore. Their wonderful short stories appear on their websites and in several anthologies. Kristina Lloyd, Janine Ashbless and Raziel Moore are also hugely talented.
I gain much inspiration from reading, and the books I choose tend to have lush erotic language: I recommend Angela Carter, Jeanette Winterson, Michel Faber and Sarah Waters especially.

My inspiration comes largely from my reading.
However, I hardly read erotica at all. I prefer historical novels or those with an element of mystery. I like to savour language, so writing style is very important to me.

If inspiration is simply lacking, I lose myself in others' pages for a while. Reading is the surest way to spark ideas.
If the 'block' is due to having written myself into a corner, it's time for serious revision.
