I know, I know. You've heard this a million times, but it's true.
Some people say, read everything and anything. Others will tell you to read what genre you want to write in. I tend to lean toward the second one.
I LOVE, absolutely am addicted to, middle grade fantasy/magic. I don't know what it is about that genre, but I can't get enough. And I feel that is the genre that I feel absolutely comfortable writing in.
Most importantly, no matter how bad your day is or if you think you suck or can't do it, I PROMISE you can. You don't have to be a certain age either. Listen, really listen to your gut. It won't steer you wrong.
Kathy Cyr The best thing about being a writer is getting lost in the story and in the words. It's a movie that plays in my head and everything else disappears. It's discovering me, the feeling of the story coming together and the fact that I did that.
Kathy Cyr I must confess that at one point I gave into "writer's block" and it lasted 7-8 years. I try not to think about it now, but there are times when I do kick myself for letting so much time pass. I've learned my lesson, though.
These days, I make myself do it. I will write even if it's nonsense, because there will be a jewel somewhere in there.
Don't wait. Don't say you can't do it, because you can. And most importantly, don't let time pass if it's something you truly love to do.
Kathy Cyr I am currently working on book two of the Max Hamby series entitled Max Hamby and the Emerald Hunt.
Kathy Cyr Some days are more inspiring than others, but most days I pull out my notebook or sit at my computer and just do it. I am really good at procrastinating, which is not good.
Kathy Cyr Max Hamby popped into my head in the summer of 2010 and stayed with me since.
