What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
ANDREA KRESS I found out I had first cousins that I didn't know existed. I didn't think I could track them down, and it took me more than 10 years, but I succeeded! I have met them and connected them (siblings and half-siblings) to one another.

When you start a novel, do you have the whole plot in your head or does it develop as you write?
ANDREA KRESS Thanks for your question. I have the major plot points set up and the people are well fleshed out in terms of what they want, what is in the way, and how they plan to get to their goal(s). But once the action starts, and it does unfurl like a movie in my head, each character acts in their own idiosyncratic way making for some plot conundrums that need to be sorted out. I guess I let my characters surprise me a bit in what they will do next in the context of the plot. It makes it interesting for me as an author.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
ANDREA KRESS Working in government and politics exposed me to an incredible diversity of people from all sorts of backgrounds, interests, and motivations. So much material. Dealing with constituent issues and personnel situations provided a lot of interesting back stories, as well.

What are you currently working on?
ANDREA KRESS DEADLY DUNES, the next in the DEADLY series, which takes place on the North Carolina coast. Coming soon...to Amazon.

What books are on your summer reading list this year?
ANDREA KRESS Elena Ferrante's "Lying Life of Adults" - because it is wonderful reading about 1960's Naples that seems like hundreds of years away.

"Wildfire" by Anne Cleeves - living in Arizona I always read a either Nordic Noir or a mystery about a cold place in the summer.

ANDREA KRESS Make a writing schedule, stick to it, and reward yourself when you hit your goal for the day. The reward? Sometimes a cup of tea, sometimes a PBS program during the late afternoon,
