Deborah Nelson is the co-winner of the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting.

Nelson earned a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and a B.S. in Journalism from Northern Illinois University.

She worked for several newspapers, including the Daily Chronicle, the Daily Herald, the Washington Post,
the Seattle Times, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Los Angeles Times. In 2006 she left the Angeles Times to take a faculty position as Associate Professor of Investigative Journalism at the Merrill College of Journalism, University of Maryland. Since 2012 she also is a free-lance investigative reporter for Reuters.
