Jonathan Kent is an author of Dark Fantasy and Horror fiction. His tales are predominantly told from a modern perspective where everyday folk are thrown into strange and fantastical situations. The stories can be dark, involving real life characters and are definitely not for the faint hearted!

He lives with his wife, two daughters and a houseful of pets on the wind swept Isle of Portland, in Dorset. He has a Business Degree from Manchester Metropolitan University and until recently had a successful career as a management consultant.

In September 2016 he gave it all up yo pursue his passion for storytelling and began a fledgling career as a novelist. His first Dark Fantasy novel 'Homecoming' was published in November 2016, followed by its dar

I have some fantastic cliff walks very near to where I live and two very keen dogs. If I ever get stuck on a plot point I find a brisk sixty minute walk can iron out any story issues. I think it's best just to get your head away from your work for an hour or so and think round the corners.

My problem is procrastination and forcing myself to sit and write. It's amazing how many distractions there are around the home. What I should be doing is writing for a minimum of one hour every day without fail. Too often though I will find myself spending WAY too much time on something I really can put off until tomorrow......(less)

But as I neared the finishing post I realised there were a great deal more stories I wanted to tell about the world I had created called 'Shael'. I am currently working on the second novel in the 'Shael' chronicles called 'Meadowbank'. It's a much longer tale. Told in the same real-time vein as 'Homecoming' and involving a lot more characters. We will also get to learn a little more of the shady organisation that came into play towards the end of the first novel.

Work is going really well and I am hoping to have it out in the spring...(less)

Sleeping Beauties (by Stephen & Owen King) – book review…

I've always been a HUGE Stephen King fan ever since I read 'Salem's Lot way back and am always eager to pick up his latest. This one intrigued me as it was written with his son 'Owen King' and the idea that all the women in the world suddenly fall asleep seemed like an interesting fantasy/thriller concept.

I must say that I tend to agree with a lot of the reviews on here as it took me a long time t Read more of this blog post »

“The most important reason for your “no” is that you need your downtime so you won’t behave like a jerk because you’re depleted. And you don’t want to battle an appetite spiked by the stress of overcommitment. But that’s your secret; others don’t need that information. So just smile, say no, thank you, and keep moving.”

“No beating yourself up. That’s not allowed. Be patient with yourself. It took you years to form the bad habits of thought that you no longer want. It will take a little
time to form new and better ones. But I promise you this: Even a slight move in this direction will bring you some peace. The more effort you apply to it, the faster you’ll find your bliss, but you’ll experience rewards immediately.”

“APPLY WITHIN

You once told me
You wanted to find
Yourself in the world -
And I told you to
First apply within,
To discover the world
within you.

You once told me
You wanted to save
The world from all its wars -
And I told you to
First save yourself
From the world,
And all the wars
You put yourself
Through.

Victoria Limbert Thank you for your friendship. Look forward to reading some of your work. I always like to do a quick book rating comparison when I meet someone new..... And I absolutely love that we both gave Desperation a 5 star rating. I think that book gets left behind alot but I adore it!

Anyway. Good to meet you!
