Franz Beckenbauer, German player, led team of his country in the World Cup of 1974 to victory and later helped the cosmos of New York to win the championship of North American soccer league at three times in 1977, 1978, and 1980.

Franz Anton Beckenbauer was a professional football manager.

People nickname him as "der Kaiser" (the emperor) and regard him as one greatest footballer and manager in history. He started as a versatile midfielder but made his name as a central defender.
