National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, Heather Anderson is the only woman who has completed the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide National Scenic Trails each three times. This includes her historic Calendar Year Triple Crown hike in 2018 when she hiked all three of those trails in one March-November season, making her the first female to do so.

She also holds the overall self-supported Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Pacific Crest Trail (2013)–hiking it in 60 days, 17 hours, 12 min, which broke the previous men’s record by four days and established the first female record. She also holds the female self-supported FKT on the Appalachian Trail (2015) in a time of 54 days, 7 hours, 48 minutes, and the Arizona Trail (2016) w

TODAY IS THE DAY

Mud, Rocks, Blazes: Letting Go on the Appalachian Trail is officially released!

The story of my 2015 #AppalachianTrail #FKT is chronicled in this book... And yet this story is so much more than that of putting one foot in front of the other even when the odds are stacked against (and the mud sucks them down!)

I've often been asked what accomplishment I'm most proud of.

The answer is not my PCT FKT. Read more of this blog post »

“At least now I knew that my heart was wedded to the mountains--to the wild places. It was there, and there alone, that I was whole, contented, and blissful. No relationship, career, or wealth could ever take its place.”
Heather "Anish" Anderson, Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home

“I'd failed to live up to the expectations of my parents. I had not utilized my education in any real way and I'd given up on my marriage. For the first time, I accepted that I could not meet the expectations of others and make myself happy at the same time. Being true to myself had led me here--onto a wild trail in the middle of the night--not into a nine-to-five and the creation of my own family. I hated myself for not being able to conform happily. I hated myself for trying and failing. I loved myself for choosing to do what was right for me, no matter the cost. I forgave myself for trying to please others when I knew it wasn't right for me.”
Heather "Anish" Anderson, Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home

“No matter the outcome, I will be thankful for the strength of my body--for the blessing of being alive. For the opportunity to face the night.”
Heather Anish Anderson, Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home

“I knew why I had felt empty before: I needed to be true to myself and my calling. Being myself–and chasing my dreams–was enough.”

“I want to set a record. Not just any record, but an athletic record. One that everyone will know me for. One that my dad will be proud of. I don't know what it will be, but I will do it. I have a lot of weaknesses, but I have two critical strengths. I am stubborn and I am smart.”
