“I long for the days when my dreams were believed
And wonder was met with applause
before life's unyielding critical gaze
Stepped in to point out all my flaws...”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Carve a Place for Me

“Be unique,' I read, 'be bold, too!'
But what they really mean is
'Don't be you.”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Carve a Place for Me

“Inky ice slaves away
the caterwauling of each broken day
and within the storms that leave behind a dust
of crystallizing diamond shore
I walk
and walk
and walk some more...”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Carve a Place for Me

“turn about, forget the past
hoist the sail upon the mast
fight the wind of black delight
forward, forward, canvas white!”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Give Me a Fragment: Glimpses into Motherhood, Depression, and Hope

“I am tossed about and taken without
Warning, like an apple dropped into a
Vast river, flowing, crashing, out to Sea
Where birds, desperate for sustenance
Eat what they find”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Give Me a Fragment: Glimpses into Motherhood, Depression, and Hope

“It is an easy thing to overlook true love.
Our eyes are searching for event and objects
Found in movies,
Novels,
And journals bursting with dreams.

We glance above the murky reality.
Our hearts do not notice the consistent presence
Of loyalty,
Friendship,
And dishes again scrubbed clean”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Give Me a Fragment: Glimpses into Motherhood, Depression, and Hope

“Inky ice slaves away
the caterwauling of each broken day
and within the storms that leave behind a dust
of crystallizing diamond shore
I walk
and walk
and walk some more...”
Cheryl Seely Savage, Carve a Place for Me

“If I was to be limited to the memories of smell
I would elaborate for you the brightness of
Sagebrush in the rain
Sun-soaked brows of laughing children
Suburb lawns infused with lilac...”
