Nikhil started equity trading at the age of 17, having dropped out of school two years earlier to play chess for India. Nikhil’s passion for analytics and financial markets stems from his unorthodox childhood. Until 2019, his focus was on generating superior returns for the Kamath proprietary fund, which over the past decade has achieved an average of 55% post tax year on year performance.

In September 2019, Nikhil co-founded True Beacon, a client aligned asset management
initiative. True Beacon brings his fund management experience to a global group of Ultra High Net Worth strategic investors, with a disruptive zero standing fee model. Nikhil is also the Investment Manager for True Beacon International, a Mauritius-based entity for global clients. In his first year of operation, the flagship fund, ‘True Beacon One’ achieved an annualised return of 29.7%, outpacing the Indian stock market benchmark by 26.6%.

In 2020, Nikhil and his brother received the coveted Economic Times Start Up of the year
for Zerodha. He frequently commentates on the Indian capital markets and entrepreneurship for domestic and overseas media. He is the youngest member in the Forbes India’s 100 richest 2020 list.

Outside True Beacon and Zerodha, Nikhil enjoys adventure sports, travel, chess and reading. He is active supporting and developing philanthropic initiatives in India, including a mass feeding programme in Bangalore during the Covid-19 pandemic.
