“It was not until ten summers later, when Theseus came to Crete, seeking power beyond what we could give him, that I learned the truth: that any man can throw words up into the air, and it it women who must pay when those words land.”
Laura Shepperson, Phaedra

“This logic applies only to men, obviously. A woman descended from a god still has to be either a good woman or a witch. What would it take to be called a heroine?”
Laura Shepperson, Phaedra

“all I knew and all I wanted to know, the only thing that made me feel like all my limbs were where they should be, and my heart was beating at the correct pace. “It feels like freedom,” I managed, stumbling over my words. Behind me, someone snickered, and I felt my face redden. But the princess just nodded. “I thought it might,” she said.”
Laura Shepperson, Phaedra
