“Mount Fuji was mostly invisible n the summer, but on clear days she could see its grand and graceful silhouette dominating the northern sky. White herons gathered in the river upstream from laundry suds pouring out of a city grate, and hydrangeas bloomed on the banks, dropping blue and lavender petals over soda cans and bento cartons littered beside the asphalt.”

My Good Reads advice, friend Sara: only read reviews of your favorite books (or your own books) after drinking. Why? Who can bear to hear a reader lament that Catcher in the Rye has no plot? Or that Antonya Price's books are fine, if you go for chick lit. Yikes.
My Good Reads advice, friend Sara: o..."
You are so right. I'm already in trouble for my relatively low rating of Hamlet. I think I was just tired of reading lame student essays about it. I'll have to figure out how to change ratings. Hamlet is an excellent play. But if I give it 5 stars, I don't have room to rate Othello higher. Mood factors in, too. I read Bridget Jones' Diary one hot summer afternoon when I wanted distraction, and it hit the spot . . . but that doesn't mean it's as good as Othello.
