Weaving a story with Anansi

I was so inspired by Neil Gaiman's novel, Anansi Boys, that I needed to write about this trickster myself.

And I did it!

I'm proud to announce that my short, Little Miss Muffet Meets Anansi The Spider, will be included in Endless Ink Publishing House's collection: Dark Tales of Whimsy, releasing next year.

If you or anyone you know is interested in reviewing a collection of short stories set in the Read more of this blog post »

Funny, the word "coreopsis" makes me think of my mom too. :)

The complexities of Clapton's MC are well developed, yet intriguing enough to keep the story well-paced. Charlie is a great source of comic relief, though the southern similes peppered throu

“Blink finds joy in the little things, just like her mother. Except, mommy also fancies the clumsier treasures, preferably those that are old, broken, smelly or covered in filth - anything to shelter the cockroaches who watch the house while Rosemary is out.”
Remy Fernandes

“With his blood rushing, he thinks about death. He is not afraid of death, and this gives him the confidence to make quick decisions—even if they are dangerous. Avinon is not going to let these slavers harm the girl. Besides, who would care if the world had less slavers in it?”
Julian Fernandes, Avinon

“Philippa Audu stands in the cemetery over a plaque. There's no body beneath her hooves. One of the perks of a cannibal society: very few bodies to bury or take up room.”
Christina D.Z.A. Marie

“The cheers of the crowd are almost deafening in the Capital City Arena, the largest gaming arena in the Federation. The only thing louder than the crowd is shrieking of the giant Octaguanarex, a large creature from the jungles of South America. He's half the size of a dwelling, now a tool used to slay those in the arena games.”
Julian Fernandes, Kay: Capital City Arena Champion

“The Goblin Shark isn’t the first ship that Reznik has sailed on—far from it. Ever since he picked himself up out of the dirt of the Badlands and walked out to the Red Ocean near the island of Sudrabi, he never looked back. His life had been a constant procession of new ships ever since. Some he takes by force, like The Goblin Shark. Some of them take him on as crew, but all of these have discovered very quickly that they made a mistake”
G.D. Penman, Chibuzo: The Goblin Shark

“As you know, a small vessel was brought in from an outer-zone construction site. They seem to be of a new civilization, with a mix of old and new technologies. This occurence is only the start of more to come. Kame, what would you do about the new trespassers?"
Jackie smiles at Kyo's wisdom, putting his potential replacement to the test.
Kame takes a second to think it over. She answers confidently, like a leader. "I would try to negotiate a way to absorb them into our culture and offer them a way to be happy without leaving. Keeping the Nation secret is the top priority of the people. This would suit both sides."
Kyo smiles. Negotiations rarely work that way. "And if they refuse?"
Kame replies quickly. "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.”
Julian Fernandes, Kyo
