This seemed like a blog post stretched out into a full-length book.

You would think that the book would focus on Buffalo Trace as a company, but no. They start the story at the time of the dinosaurs. Yes. The actual history of the modern-day company

Just an incredible biography. On a whim, I bought this since I had randomly been thinking of Ulysses S. Grant. I wasn't familiar with Chernow's work, and I honestly didn't know much about Grant other than what I had read about him in history class as ...more

Imagine the most bland, fantasy you can think of. That book is more interesting than Malice. The characters are so boring that you are almost happy when they die, just for variety. The story is so bland and cookie-cutter that there are zero surprises ...more

It’s a good book, but suffers from a lack of narrative focus. To me, the best historical books are the ones that weave a great narrative story into the history. That keeps the flow of the book on track. This book doesn’t really have that, so it seems ...more

Not great. Some good nuggets here and there. Just boring, which is ironic, since it's trying to show how to write a gripping story that people will want to read. I had to stop reading. ...more

A good guide. Maybe more like 3.5 stars. Good for discussing topics of theology rationally and calmly without jumping to conclusions.

Patrick Süskind
“This scent had a freshness, but not the freshness of limes or pomegranates, not the freshness of myrrh or cinnamon bark or curly mint or birch or camphor or pine needles, not that of a May rain or a frosty wind or of well water... and at the same time it had warmth, but not as bergamot, cypress, or musk has, or jasmine or daffodils, not as rosewood has or iris... This scent was a blend of both, of evanescence and substance, not a blend, but a unity, although slight and frail as well, and yet solid and sustaining, like a piece of thin, shimmering silk... and yet again not like silk, but like pastry soaked in honey-sweet milk - and try as he would he couldn't fit those two together: milk and silk! This scent was inconceivable, indescribable, could not be categorized in any way - it really ought not to exist at all. And yet there it was as plain and splendid as day.”

Nick Jones Hey! Thought I'd let you know I picked up a copy of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman: The Dream Hunters.

I'm putting sole blame on you if I don't like it :-P

j/k

So, what did you think of the Gunplay preview?

Nick Jones Here for the booze eh? :-) I said that at my brother's wedding... I didn't quite get the reaction I was hoping for. I laughed nonetheless. Sometimes you just have to dance to your own tune. Thanks for adding me… you just about have me convinced to pick-up The Sandman. That is, if I ever get through Watchmen. At my current pace, I should be done with it sometime this summer :-P
