I’ve always loved novellas, and after three full-length novels I enjoyed the chance to play with complex worldbuilding in such a compact package. Books two and three are a bit longer, as we flesh out the world of the Fairweather and the many people ( See Olivia’s answer.
The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks
"What a racist, dull, unimaginative book. Full of stereotypes and negative images, this book should be taught only to teach young people how NOT to write books. I only read this book for a grad class and would never recommend it to anyone. First, the " Read more of this review »

Maverynthia is on page 369 of 422 of Snow Like Ashes: Oh OF COURSE Miera can't fight the big bad without the help of a maaaaaan. Because that would make her a MARY SUE and we all know that's just terrible!

Yay misogyny making another OK book just terrible in the end.

“No matter where you go, you'll find that people in high positions like to make themselves look good. A general, for example, must always be a hero, because who will respect him if he is a coward? I've traveled to many countries and heard many stories, and a victory in battle is always the general's, even when it's won by the hard work of ordinary soldiers. And when time passes, these stories often develop into legends.”

“Just kill me. My life is nothing without you. Drive me mad. Let me be your sustenance. Eat my soul. You’re… you’re tearing me apart!”

John Berger
“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.”
