“She should have known never to love anything so much she couldn’t bear to lose it. That was life’s lesson.”
Michael Sledge, The More I Owe You: A Novel

“The way out is to keep loving. I know it’s not easy. We always want love to give us something back, something we need deeply, but I don’t think that’s the way it works. Love is like faith. We have to keep reaching into ourselves to find it, even when we think there is nothing left inside us and nothing returned. It can be terribly painful. But when you are lost, that’s the way to find yourself again.”
Michael Sledge, The More I Owe You: A Novel
