Dill is the author of Maggie Mae, Detective Extraordinaire: The Case of the Missing Cookies (picture book); the American Civil War Adventure Series: Anna and the Baking Championship (1) and Finding My Place: One Girl's Strength at Vicksburg (2), for historical fiction, middle-grade readers; and That's the Way It Always Happened (picture book)*. I loved this book—Brit Bennett is a fantastic writer and I loved how the stories were woven together. The characters were fantastic. It can be tough to read it—some events and character’s actions are heartbreaking—but realistic.

My 13-year old daughter told me to read this because she really liked it and thought it was good. So I did. As an adult, I thought it was a little slow. The mystery and technology storylines are good and the characters are likable. The pacing was off ...more
