Only those with thick skin need apply

I hadn't realized until I wrote my first novel, that thick skin was an essential skill for the writer. If it was a job ad, I am sure it was say "thin skinned need not apply." I have had great reviews - I am so lucky and pleased. But, some trickling comments including, "I hate the title" and "I wish he had a different title" are not ambiguous statements. Is the title, Evolution's Magnum Opus: Innocence on Trial - as bad as these two reviewers say? Maybe it is. It is heady - no doubt. I thought after reading the book, it would make sense to readers - but maybe that is the point they are making. You shouldn't have to read it to make sense of it. Honest feedback of the name please/ I can take it - and its too late anyway, lol.

Valda Taurus I am in the same shoes as you, Stephen. Some people commented that the title of my book sounds terrifying. However, before publication, my editor told me, "Wow! The title is captivating!" Seeing me be upset over a few comments, my friend and cover designer said, "You can't please everyone. This is your book and your title." My proofreader suggested changing the title to "Guilt and Remorse" instead of "Killing Your Best Friend", but it sounded so bo-o-o-ring to me. However, now I think that she was not unreasonable.
I read your book and I liked every line in it. The title... In my opinion, it sounds too intellectual, maybe? It would better suit as a Law school thesis paper, and of course, you are a lawyer:)

Stephen Roth Thanks Valda. I will settle for 'too intellectual' after a reviewer "hated it" yesterday and today I was told it was pretentious. I have definitely learned that you can't please everyone - hopefully some of them :) I like "Killing Your Best Friend" What's wrong with terrifying anyway? I will never disagree with anyone's opinion - how someone feels is how they feel. Most do it with class and a few don't. I do appreciate honest feedback. Sometimes, the feedback is 100% opposite, and a little amusing.
