It is a sad and relatively little known fact that during world war two a good portion of the native population of alaska were forcibly relocated to what became known as duration camps. This was done at least offically for their own protection but conditions in these camps were terrible and many died without ever seeing their homes again. The US goverment eventually paid settlements to the surviors of this grave injustice. I have written a young adult novel titled The Origin of the Wind available on amazon as a kindle download that address this. The novel cocerns a young native american girl who after arguing with her mother about attending heritage night is given the diary that her grandmother kept while living in one such camp. Through reading the diary she comes ti appreciate the importance of knowing ones heritage and the value of family and community. Woven into the narative is an traditional native american creation story hence the title. This young adult novel is appropriate for all ages and is available as a kindle download on amazon. Check it out, thanks for reading!
