Still in Manhattan

I may be the last person in the Western hemisphere to go, but I FINALLY made it to Manhattan last week. It was quite powerful, almost overwhelming. I didn't realize how much all those American icons meant to me, a Canadian, until I was on the top of the Rockefeller Centre staring down into the lego land of the city, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State and Lady Liberty all right there as I scanned the skyline.
Today, I kick off TD Children's Book Week - I have three readings, the first one today at Barbara Frum Library. I will be reading from my Lost Gargoyle books, and I know there will be an aside (or two) about the four huge gargoyles on the Chrysler building and the giant lions on the front of the NYC Central Library ... the world's a pretty magical place!

Philippa Dowding Monica - Well, no, technically speaking, lions aren't gargoyles, but there is something very lifelike about these particular lions. Someone told me there is a children's book about them coming to life and wandering around Manhattan every night, which I've yet to find.

And coffee - yes yes yes! Perhaps later in May?

PD

Philippa Dowding thanks Monica!! I will definitely read it, now I know the lions of which she speaks. There's a similar lion in all three of my gargoyle books, alone in the church courtyard, with a broken left ear ... let's say May 29th, coffee somewhere between you and me?

Philippa Dowding yes! it's at the bottom of my street, very close to me. That would be perfect, but it's more my end of Gladstone than yours ... there is also Lit on College, just east of Gladstone, or we could do that one next time if you have your heart set on being one of the cool kids at the Common (uber-hip)

Philippa Dowding hmmm, well it's good coffee, don't recall the profundity. But lit it is, May 29th ... time? (Miss uber-hip in her freudian slip!)
