Bouncing off our collection of Readers’ Most Anticipated Fall Books, we’re taking a peek into the very near future to spotlight upcoming books in speculative fiction—sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and the many spaces in between. This guide is a curated selection of highly anticipated titles and advance reader picks, plus some notable debuts and other selections from the stacks. Each of the titles collected below is slated to publish from the end of August through the end of December.

Returning readers will note plenty of series continuations and conclusions this fall, with new installments including James Islington’s The Strength of the Few (the Hierarchy series); Holly Black’s Thief of Night (The Charlatan Duology); and Cadwell Turnbull’s A Ruin, Great and Free (the Convergence Saga).

Horror fans looking to get started on their Halloween reading will want to note new releases from Isabel Cañas (The Possession of Alba Díaz) and Alma Katsu (Fiend), plus Mona Awad’s much anticipated sequel to her 2019 cult classic Bunny. Bonus pick: an anthology of short stories set in the world of Stephen King’s immortal classic, The Stand. And, hey! Is that the new book from Ken Liu? It is!
