3.5 stars, mainly because it wasn't what I was hoping. On the one hand, this book is a tribute to the film Possession by Andrzej Zulawski, as it is merited several essays throughout. On the other hand it's a book cobbled together from the best of Eyeball Magazine, with plenty of reviews and essays that like to raise the station of Euro-horror films with terms like Lacanian Theory and non-diegetic Blues Music, whilst the review authors mention off-hand that they were tripping on LSD while watching the movie. As a guide to the best of such challenging movies, it's a good resource. As an entertaining read for the lovers of such movies, pretty much only the limited presences of Ramsey Campbell and Tim Lucas are there to recommend it.
This book is a collection of pieces from the "Eyeball" magazine and is a wonderful reference point for films of the 'sex & horror, art and exploitation" variety. There are tons of interesting articles on film makers and films, interviews and reviews. I read some great interviews with some of my favorite film makers and found many more interesting movies to check out. Worth every last penny!
